In the past year, Bearden’s centenary has been marked nationwide with events and exhibits befitting the legacy of a great American artist. Now we invite creative writers—Elizabeth Alexander, John Edgar Wideman, Kwame Dawes, Stanley Crouch, Russell Goings, Khalil Gibran Muhammad, and others—to speak about what Bearden’s life and work has meant to them.
